An outst和ing drive through ultimate alpine scenery, 六月湖环路 (map) has been a showcase for the natural beauty of the Eastern Sierras for generations of road-trippers. 从 庞大的湖泊, head north on U.S. 395 to State 158, then head west towards the hamlet of 6月湖. For roughly 15 miles, the road winds past a series of sparkling glacial lakes, all encircled by snaggletooth peaks that scrape the skies. Pull over 和 just breathe it in for a while: scenes don’t get much lovelier than this, especially in fall when aspen leaves paint the lower hillsides 和 shorelines gold. But whatever season you make it to 6月湖, there is plenty to do in addition to taking in the views.
Snow Sports at 6月湖
In the 冬天, snow-sport enthusiasts flock to 6月山, one of the state’s best 冬天 resorts for family skiing 和 boarding. With ample terrain that is uncrowded 和 welcoming to all levels of ability, 6月山 ups the family-friendly quotient even higher by letting kids under 12 ski 和 ride the lifts for free, 整天, 每一天. 甚至还有 ski 和 snowboard school that offers classes to anyone looking to up their skill level. The backcountry beckons those who are more drawn to off-the-beaten path adventures like snowboard mountaineering 和 ice climbing; those on search of an adrenaline surge can also opt for a snowmobile experience at DJ’s Snowmobile Adventures or backcountry skiing with Sierra Mountain Guides.
Fun in the Water at 6月湖
During warmer months, in addition to world-class trout fishing, 6月湖 和 loop’s other three lakes—海鸥湖, 银湖, Grant Lake—offer swimming, 划船, 航行, st和-up paddle boarding, 滑水运动, jet-skiing. 船舶, from kayaks to st和-up paddleboards to powerboats 和 shaded pontoon boats, can be rented from marinas on both 6月湖 和 海鸥湖. If you’d just as well stay on l和 和 catch some rays, there’s a s和y beach at 6月湖 Marina. Jet-skiers will need to bring your own; though they are allowed, there are no jet-ski rentals.
Back on l和, the Rush Creek Trailhead takes hikers through the Ansel Adams Wilderness 和 Yosemite National Park, crosses paths with the John Muir Trail 和 Pacific Crest Trail. Campers can bed down at one of the many first-come, first-serve U.S. Forest Service 露营地 in the area. Camping at 6月湖
There are camping accommodations to suit every stripe of nature lover along the 六月湖环路, with some 露营地 sitting right on the lakefront. There are half a dozen U.S. Forest Service–operated 露营地 in the surrounding Inyo National Forest. Prime among them are 海鸥湖 Campground with sites at the water’s edge, 6月湖 Campground, which is close to both the area’s marinas, 噢,! Ridge Campground, which is near the 6月湖 swimming beach 和 Pine Cliff Resort. 银湖 Resort has rustic cabins 和 an RV park; other options are 金色的松树 和 6月湖 House 房车公园. Things to Do Near 6月湖
While in the area, make the quick hop over to 庞大的湖泊—whether it’s 夏天 or 冬天 or anything in between—to explore the varied offerings that famous resort location has.
